In a world where we often find ourselves entangled in the chaos of everyday life, seeking a sense of inner peace and spiritual fulfillment becomes a universal quest. Michael A. Singer’s transformative masterpiece, “The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself,” has emerged as a guiding light on this journey. In this book review, we will embark on a profound exploration of Singer’s wisdom, uncovering the transformative power of letting go and embracing the boundless potential of the human spirit. Join us as we dive into the depths of consciousness and discover the untethered soul within us all.

The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself is a book that dives deep into your psyche to find the real you: your consciousness, your feelings, and your thoughts. By pulling from different types of spiritual practices all around the globe Michael A. Singer (author) takes you on an inward journey through your mind to get in touch with yourself and become your own master to reach the ultimate goal, true enlightenment.

One of the first things that this book goes over is quieting the mind. I often joke that my mind is constantly running and doing something, believing that it is impossible to stop it. Turns out that is not the truth. It is possible to control your thoughts and emotions without spiraling. By understanding this, you will be well on your way to calming your mind down and truly focusing on the moment at hand and not jumping from moment to moment.

It also taught me to find out what I’m really searching for in life and give it more meaning than the superficial reasonings we usually give. For example, Do you want to be rich? Or are you looking for financial freedom? If you have financial freedom how would you feel? You’d probably feel a lot less stressed out, wouldn’t you? That’s what you’re searching for, less stress in your life. Really diving into my real subconscious needs instead of just surface-level made me rethink my entire goals.

And the most effective lesson I learned from reading this book is the concept and the acceptance of death, and how to truly live every day like it’s your last. You could be drinking your morning coffee and choke and die. You don’t expect it to happen but it could. And if it did would you be happy with your life? Those thought-provoking questions made me refocus on the quality of my life instead of the quantity of experiences.

When reading The Untethered Soul is the simplicity they believe in setting realistic expectations. They don’t sugarcoat the practices to make it seem like you can achieve enlightenment in a weekend they stress that it is a practice and you won’t be able to see the effects in a day or two but it will be a gradual change over time.

I loved hearing about the different spiritual practices and how they all intertwine together. However, towards the end of the book, to me at least it got very preachy and took me out of it completely. I understand that to some, religion plays a huge part in their lives and there’s nothing wrong with that. But it steered almost too close to only Christian spirituality and it didn’t give any insight to any of the other religions.

This book gave me more than I would have ever thought I would ever get from a self-help book. It gave me more of an idea of what living free really is and made me realize how much I allow my past to affect me. I would jump to conclusions, assuming what people will do when in all actuality they aren’t even thinking about me. It showed me how much my life is shrouded in fear. My brain would go off on tangents about scenarios that happened years ago or events that will most likely never happen and it will send me down a spiral of depression and anxiety that I thought I had to deal with, but I don’t.

After reading this book I realized how much calmer I approached life, how I take a breath and let life happen and watch the moments pass through me instead of fixating on a moment that has already come and gone. I just watch my thoughts as a by-standard and don’t get in the way of flowing traffic. We are just on a floating rock through space, and in the grand scheme of things, those 5 minutes don’t matter in the millions of minutes, in life no matter what my anxiety-ridden brain thinks. Because at the end of the end of the day, nothing really matters and it’s so refreshing. I would give this book 3.5 stars, it was really mind-changing.

This book would be great for those just starting out on their spiritual journey because it gives you insights and perspectives from different cultures and you can see how we are all connected in some kind of way. Even if you aren’t on a spiritual journey and just need a new perspective on living life and getting through the day today. One thing that I loved about reading the book is it showed me how to create space in my mind to think and process my thoughts while still validating my feelings. It doesn’t teach you to be numb and always choose peace, and joy. No, you can feel whatever emotion you need to feel in that moment but once the moment is over. Let it be over and pass through you and get on with your life.

In conclusion, I would highly recommend this book to anyone starting a spiritual journey it gives you a good idea of the mindset you should have as well as practical ways to achieve it while not overhauling your entire life.
