10 Best Feng Shui Practices To Inspire Peace in Your Home

Feng shui is a practice of placing things in an area to encourage harmony by using energy forces. Many people consider Fengshui as part of a religion but it also has bases in science. Feng shui is more than just rearranging your space, many consider it a lifestyle.

The idea of Feng shui is to organize a living space as harmonious as possible by following a set of rules. The idea of placing certain items in a special location, as well as the quality of the items, allows people to receive its life force, or Chi – Energy. By following these rules you can create a place that will recharge you and be filled with positive energy.

The Rules Of Feng Shui

Declutter

Before you begin disposing of unnecessary but memorable things, make sure you thank them for serving you and bringing joy to you. It is important to get rid of things you no longer need. The idea behind this is if your wardrobe is full you don’t have any space in your life for anything new. Avoid storing things under your bed. They carry bad energy and will interfere with your sleep.

Let in Air And Light

Bright light is a good feature and encourages positive energy, while its absence is linked to stress, poor health, and financial problems. Make sure to open the windows in the mornings to let in the light and fill the room with positive energy.

Care About the Quality of Energy

The most important rule is the arrangement of the furniture should not interfere with your chi- energy. Avoid bulky, massive objects instead look for graceful and neat shapes that will allow energy to flow through. Cabinets and shelving should not be placed near doors or windows, this will ensure that no positive energy is blocked.

Choose the Correct Bed Location

The bed should not be touching the wall on either side except for the back end. Your bed, desk, or stove needs to be in a command position. This means you need to see the entrance when you raise your head. Be careful not to place your bed opposite the door or against the window as it might disrupt your peace. If in your apartment it is impossible to see the entrance from this location, place a mirror near your bed so you can see the entrance in it.

Use Plants for Adding Good Energy

I’m all about creating good energy with plants. I have a full list of plants that bring positive energy that you can read here. Some plants are better for feng shui than others based on their need for water. The more the flower needs the better it is for your home. Plants such as lotus, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemums are great for this. Also keeping a plant on top of the kitchen cabinets is very beneficial.

Keep the Path to the Front Door Clear

It’s human nature to keep things by the front door and windows. However, it’s best to leave these areas clutter-free. One is the front door as it’s a direct line from the universe to your home, you want to ensure that the area is free from clutter and debris. I keep my jackets and keys close to my door so it’s easy to excess when I’m leaving. In order to keep it as decluttered as possible, I keep a rack in by my door much like this one so I get the best of both worlds.

It’s best practice to have something in your hallway to make visitors pause and it will slow down the energy flow. Don’t place the front and the back doors opposite as the energy will leave your home too fast.

Keep Things and Windows Clean

According to Feng Shui, cleaning should be done as often as possible. It’s necessary to take care of windows and open surfaces and the space inside cabinets, chandeliers, flowers, sofa, and everything else. The best way to cleanse is by using water and water-based cleaning solutions since it tends to absorb negative energy.

Remove Negative Symbolism

This one kind of goes without saying, anything you associate with negative events, memories, or thoughts should be discarded. You don’t want negative energy lingering in your space, you want your space to attract the things you want in your life. For example, if you want to welcome happiness into your life then bring in things that symbolize joy to your place.

Fix All Broken Things

One of the first things you can and should do is to check which things surround you every day. Without a doubt, you will find things that are just left for “better times” and are not likely to ever be used. You may also have broken things or objects that have to be repaired. It’s best to get rid of all the broken things as they symbolize suffering and failures and attract problems.
