How Stretching Daily Improves Your Life & How To Get Started

Stretching is probably the most important aspect of our workout routine yet most times we never want to do it. Myself included, after a long workout the last thing I want to do is ‘cool down.’ We need to make time for this, stretching keeps your body flexible and improves your range of motion all while minimizing your risk of injury.

Why You Need To Start Stretching

There are so many benefits to stretching;

  • it improves your coordination
  • prevent injury
  • improves balance
  • recovering time
  • and relieves stress as well as mobility

I have very tight hamstrings. I can always feel when I need a good stretch when I go up the stairs my legs always feel heavy and I feel heavier from all the built-up lactic acid. Even crossing my legs puts pressure on my hamstrings.

You don’t need to make the sessions super long even if you do a few stretches for 5 or 10 minutes in the morning or in the evening you’ll feel a world of difference. Sometimes it’s good to have an app remind you to do some stretches or you can incorporate yoga into your workout practice or in between workouts. Some simple stretches you can try are:

  • Forward Fold
  • Seated Leg stretch
  • Shoulder stretches
  • Hamstring Stretch
  • Side Stretch

Remember anything is better than nothing and your body is worth the headache of getting up and moving about for a bit. I like to stretch in the morning preferably but when I’m not able to do my morning routine I’ll do it in the evening, just something quick and simple. I hope this helps get you moving and I’ll see you later.
