The Best Tofu Marinade Ever

I’ve been cooking at home a lot more and looking for recipes on Instagram and have come across a lot of tofu-inspired recipes that look amazing. I was not familiar with cooking tofu and all the prep work. I knew you had seasoned it but I was under the notion that it has to be paired with something else, only to discover it doesn’t! Tofu is a stand-alone piece that can be paired with others to make a meal. The key is in the marinade. Tofu is like an edible sponge ready to absorb anything you through at it. I’ve found an easy recipe that I loved, tasted amazing, and didn’t involve a ton of ingredients or prep time. Let me show you.

To give credit where credit is due this recipe is from kitchen skip it is not a vegan-based sight but it does have some plant-based recipes on there and is worth a look through if you’re interested. I did change up a few things but not a lot.

With this recipe, you do not need to press the tofu but I did for about 5 minutes so it would cook a bit faster. I mixed the marinade in the same container the tofu came in. I did this because I knew the container could fit both the tofu and extra liquid and no part would be missed and it made for an easier clean-up.

The Best Tofu Marinade

For the marinade I used :

About 2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 Tablespoons of balsamic vinegar

2 tablespoons of maple syrup

Mix well then carefully reinsert the tofu back into its container and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes. You can do it a bit longer if you like.

(They suggest cutting then pouring the marinade over the pieces, waiting for 15 minutes, and flipping it about halfway through if you like)

After the 10 minutes is up remove the tofu and cut it into 1/2 Square pieces. Heat oil (I used olive oil) then before you put the pieces in the pan dip each piece in the marinade before placing it into the pan. I even poured a bit of the marinade into the pan to make sure it was fully saturated. I cooked the tofu for about 7 minutes on each side then removed it. They came out perfect.

I could eat these plain or in a rice bowl. I can’t wait to try this again and for you to try it as well.
