Time To Ditch The Make Up Wipes & Dive In To Vegan Cleansing Oil With Mad Hippie

I’m not a fan of makeup wipes. They never removed all my makeup and I had to scrub hard to get what little it did off. They are also bad for the environment. They are single-use products that you typically need multiple of in one use and it takes over 100 years for them to decompose, so the makeup wipes you used in high school is still there. The non-decomposing wipes also disrupt the pH balance on the skin and can damage the skin barrier causing you to lose moisture and natural oils1. Knowing that is why I moved over to double cleansing.

Double cleansing is washing your face twice, typically one is an old-based cleanser to remove any makeup or oils from the skin then switching to a water-based one2. Not only does double cleansing help break down the makeup and dirt better on the skin, but the second cleanser targets your specific skin needs helping you get that glowing skin you love. My go-to for my oil-based cleanser is by Mad Hippie. Their cleansing oil removes my makeup quickly and easily while leaving my skin feeling softer and looking healthier. I wanted to share with you why I love the brand Mad Hippie because it really follows a lot of my core values but they also have great products. Let’s get into it.

Mad Hippie : The Brand

Mad Hippie is a brand created by Sam and Dana, two nomadic newlyweds who wanted an all-natural skincare line to help soothe their sun-baked skin in the Central American sun. Thus Mad Hippie was born! The Hippie Creed (as they call it) states that their underlying commitment is to increase the beauty around the world.. not from an esthetic viewpoint. They state on their site that they are all about the beauty of health, opinions, and self-confidence regardless of race, gender, sexuality, age, location, etc. They do donate to an array of different causes one being Clean the ocean which I love! They go into way more detail on their page if you’re interested please read more about them here. For the rest of us, we’re going on to the review.

My Thoughts

Before I tried the Mad Hippie brand I had to do a little research.

First thing first is it vegan? On the front of the bottle, it says it contains ” Ginger, Organic Rosehip, & Pumpkin seed oil.” As well all know that can’t be it. Even on ULTA.com, it lists the key ingredients as:

  • Organic Pumpkin Seed Oil for Replenishment.
  • Organic Safflower Oil for Moisture and softening of the skin.
  • Organic Rosehip Oil for evening skin tone, soothe skin and soften the skin.
  • Ginger for toning skin and any skin discoloration.
  • White Tea for skin rejuvenation.
  • Squalene (vegan) for more hydration and soothe skin.

There are a few more ingredients and I put them in double-check vegan and it turned up 2 results Squalene which comes from a shark’s liver but it can also come from olives. At Mad Hippie they chose to get their Squalene from olives.

As far as Tocopherol, on their FAQ they say all their ingredients are cruelty-free and vegan except for their SPF which contains beeswax. I can’t find anything going against that but them not stating it as clearly as they did Squalene which is weird but we’re just going to take their word for it. Meaning we’re all good to go!

According to Mad Hippie, they say: gently massage a gracious amount of oil into the skin for a minute. Then place a warm washcloth on the face and wait until it cools. Next, do one light pass of the washcloth over the skin. gentle wiping away the dirt, makeup, and excess oil.

After a good, but not excessive, amount of cleanser all my makeup including my hard-to-remove mascara was completely off my face. It was also nice to have a warm cloth sit on my face after a long day and then have a makeup-free face right after I wipe it off.

I like it a lot more than wipes and using double cleansers even though you’ll have to cleanse again. I just use it as a way to remove makeup, oil, and dirt from the skin. It virtually removes all of that from my skin and it doesn’t strip it bare. Overall it’s probably a 3.5 out of 5. It’s not bad at all but it’s not worth the price point for how small the amount I’m getting. Maybe if I used it as an actual cleanser it’d be different but if I’m completely honest I probably won’t be buying this again.
